Expert Free Field & Aided Audiometry in Mumbai

Ensure your hearing aids are delivering maximum clarity, or get accurate hearing evaluations for your little ones without the fuss of headphones. With over 20 years of experience, we provide precise free-field testing across our 10+ Mumbai clinics.

What is Free Field and Aided Audiometry?

Most standard hearing tests require you to wear snug headphones. But what if we need to test how well you hear with your hearing aids on? Or what if a toddler simply refuses to wear headphones? That is where Free Field Audiometry comes in. Instead of headphones, calibrated sounds (beeps, warbles, or speech) are played through high-fidelity speakers positioned around you in our sound-treated room. When we perform this test while you are wearing your hearing aids or cochlear implants, it is called Aided Audiometry. It is the ultimate test to prove whether your devices are actually doing their job.

When is this Test Recommended?

Our audiologists highly recommend this evaluation if:

  • You recently purchased new hearing aids and need to verify they are programmed correctly for your specific hearing loss.
  • You feel your current hearing aids aren’t helping you enough in noisy environments.
  • You need a hearing test for an infant, toddler, or child who won’t tolerate wearing headphones (Behavioral Observation Audiometry).
  • You wear a cochlear implant or bone-anchored hearing device.

Real-World Hearing Aid Verification at Home

A soundproof clinical booth is great, but we know you don’t live in a sound booth! You live in the real world, complete with the hum of ceiling fans, the chatter of family, and the noise of Mumbai traffic.

If you cannot visit our clinics, our audiologists can travel to your home to conduct a Real-World Aided Benefit Evaluation. We measure exactly how well your hearing aids are performing in your actual living room. If the test shows you are missing certain sounds, we can fine-tune and reprogram your devices right there on the spot.

What to Expect During the Test

Whether evaluating an adult’s hearing aids or a child’s natural hearing, the process is completely non-invasive and stress-free.

Step 1: The Setup.

You (or your child) will sit comfortably in a chair in the center of our sound-treated room, positioned precisely between calibrated speakers. No heavy headphones required!

Step 2: The Sounds.

We will play a series of tones, warbles, or speech clips through the speakers at varying volumes and frequencies.

Step 3: The Response.

Adults will simply press a button or raise a hand. For infants and toddlers, our expert audiologists carefully observe behavioral responses, like a head turn or widening eyes.

Step 4: Immediate Fine-Tuning.

We compare your “aided” results to your “unaided” hearing loss. If there are gaps in clarity, we immediately reprogram your Signia, Phonak, ReSound or Widex hearing aids to fix the issue.

Clinics where we offer Free Field & Aided Audiometry tests in Mumbai

Do I need to bring my hearing aids to this appointment?

Yes, absolutely! If you already wear hearing aids or cochlear implants, please wear them to the clinic. The primary goal of “Aided Audiometry” is to test how well those specific devices are working for you.

Is this test safe for babies and toddlers?

Yes, it is incredibly safe and often the preferred method for young children. Because no headphones are used, children usually view the test as a fun game of listening to sounds coming from the speakers.

How long does a free field test take?

The actual testing takes about 15 to 20 minutes. However, we allocate a full 45 minutes for your appointment so we have ample time to discuss the results and reprogram your hearing aids if necessary.

Can you adjust my hearing aids based on these results?

Yes! If the aided audiogram shows that your hearing aids aren’t providing enough amplification at certain pitches, our audiologists will immediately fine-tune your devices using our advanced software.
