Hearing changes naturally over time. We generally recommend getting your hearing re-tested and your hearing aids fine-tuned at least once a year to ensure they are always providing optimal support.
That whistling is called “feedback.” It usually happens when amplified sound leaks out of your ear canal and goes back into the hearing aid’s microphone. It can be caused by a loose dome, a change in your ear shape, or earwax buildup. We can easily fix this during a quick tuning appointment.
A standard tuning and programming session usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the level of adjustment required and whether we need to perform a fresh hearing test.
